About this item

• ✅ Shipping starts after mid February! Persimmon ‘Meader’ (Diospyros virginiana), a grafted plant with roots wrapped in wet media. Hardiness zone 4-10. Grows to 15-20 feet.
• ✅ This self-fertile American persimmon is one of the hardiest varieties and can survive temperatures of minus 25°F. The small, tasty fruit ripens to a deep orange color and is best eaten when the fruit is soft, giving it a sweet date-like flavor. The fruit can be astringent if eaten too early. ‘Meader’ will bear fruit after 2-3 years, and it starts to ripen in early fall. In Connecticut, it fruits in mid-October.
• ✅ Honeybees collect nectar from the flowers in early June, and if a male persimmon plant is nearby, ‘Meader’ will produce seeds; otherwise, it will be seedless. Reaching heights of 15-20’ tall, this outstanding persimmon was hybridized by the late Professor Elwyn Meader of New Hampshire.
